Great Looking Ruby J powered with an Electric Start Tohatsu outboard and includes 1986 Wedco 8' dinghy with a Johnson Outboard! Ready to sail!
This beautiful Watkins is being sold by the original owners who have had it for over 30 years. The difference between Watkins and other sailboats at this price point is that Watkin boats are all solid fiberglass. There is no 'coring' in Watkins boats to absorb water and soften the hull and deck. This can be easily proven when a moisture meter is used by an accredited surveyor when he appraises the value of a boat. In addition, the boat has three bulkheads, increasing her structural rigidity.
In January of 2017, the vessel was restored so that the owners could start "looping" in it. All work was done by professionals in several marine yards. The restoration costs were $10,383. It included a new bottom job complete with two coats of bottom paint, repairing all fiberglass issues below the water line. The hull was chemically treated and buffed and all teak was refinished.
A new non pressurized alcohol stove and depth sounder was installed. A 2014 Electric start Tohatsu outboard with a mechanical lift was purchased and installed. Three nearly new sails were added.
The boat has a VHF radio and GPS. The port side settee pulls out to form a double berth. The cushions have been upgraded to high density 5" breathable foam. This Watkins sleeps 5 people comfortably (the backs of the cabin settee cushions can be used as cockpit cushions).
It carries 40 gallons of water and 20 gallons of gas (100-mile range at 5-6 knots cruising speeds). It has two anchors; one is a "fortress" anchor. It has an enclosed head with a lockable door. It has 6ft 2in headroom by the galley with a deep stainless steel sink, well-insulated Icebox, and cavernous storage. The 8 ft. dingy with a 2 HP Johnson outboard are included.
The sellers "looped" the it from Jacksonville to Hayes Virginia arriving in October 2017. This boat is loop ready and one of the loop boats Skipper Bob (a famous looper author) has used to complete the loop. The boat has been featured in looper magazines and is a highly sought after boat.
